HP released on 10 september a new firmware for its most popular Smart Array controllers used in the Gen8 Proliant servers.
Remarkable is that the functionality, unlocked by adding the SAAP license on the controller, now is by default in the base firmware!
HP Smart Array Advanced Pack (SAAP) consists of a group of firmware that provides additional and advanced feature functionality within the Smart Array Controllers that requires a license key for activation. You can also get a 60 day free evaluation key here to test. If you are using this in a Proliant and need HP hardware, the RAID6. Additionally, Smart Array Advanced Pack 2.0 License key enables RAID 6 (ADG), 6+0, Advanced Capacity Expansion, Mirror Splitting and Recombining in Offline Mode, Drive Erase, Performance Optimization-Degraded Reads and Read Coalescing (VOD) ), RAID 1 ADM Advanced Data Mirroring.
So these features are now, for free, available on the Smart Array controllers P220i, P222, P420i, P420, P421, P721m and P822:
