The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs includes cat-specific objects that are must haves for cats in any Sim’s life. Cat Scratch Posts and Cat Condos are must-haves for any household populated with cats. Not only do these items stop them from clawing and tearing up furniture around the house, it also gives them a place to groom, laze, play, sit, nap, sleep. I recently got the new Cats and Dogs expansion and I adopted a dog, and then moved to 1010 Alto Apartments, (I used to live in Oasis Springs, and there I could send my dog outside with no trouble), and now whenever I use the interaction 'Ask to Go Potty', my dog will bark a few times then the thought bubble showing that the Sims can't go anywhere (the one usually accompanied with a hand wave. The dogs stay outside and won't go inside using the doggy door. This is a long shot, but have you tried going into build mode and turning the door around? The door is usable, since the cats frequently use it to go play chase outside.

A really important part of playing The Sims 4 is working on relationships with other sims and growing friendships with family members and friends. The sims isn’t the most fun if your sims don’t have any friends or someone to share their life with!

Sometimes working on these relationships can be a lot of work and have you inviting a sim over every single day just to stay friends. Thankfully, there are relationship cheats for The Sims 4 that you can use to skip the process of gaining these relationships organically.
How to Enable Cheats
Before you are able to use any of these relationship cheats you must enable cheats. You can do this by first opening up the cheat dialogue box by hitting ctrl + shift + c on your keyboard. Then type in testingcheats true and hit enter. This is going to enable cheats and if it works it will say cheats are enabled.
How to Cheat Friendship
If you are trying to increase the friendship between two sims you are going to use this cheat:
- ModifyRelationship Sim1 Sim2 Amount LTR_Friendship_Main
I totally understand that a cheat like that can be confusing so let’s do an example. If you wanted to increase Bob and Eliza Pancakes’s friendship by 100 points the cheat is going to look like this:
- ModifyRelationship Bob Pancakes Eliza Pancakes 100 LTR_Friendship_Main
The first sim name is going to be the name of the sim you are currently controlling and you need the first and last name with a space in between. Make sure that you spell them correctly! Then, the number is the amount of relationship you’d wish to give this can be any number from 1 to 100.
These cheats work on a points system so if you fill the number with 100 it will add 100 friendship points, not fill the bar too 100%.
To decrease your friendship with another sim you are going to use the exact same cheat but you are going to change the number from a positive number to a negative. So, for example if you wanted to decrease by 50 relationship points for Bob and Eliza Pancakes you would have a cheat that looks like this:
- ModifyRelationship Bob Pancakes Eliza Pancakes -50 LTR_Friendship_Main
How to Cheat Romance
The romance cheats are going to work exactly the same as the friendship cheat, except in the cheat you are going to change friendship to romance. It will look something like this:
- ModifyRelationship Sim1 Sim2 Amount LTR_Romance_Main
If you wanted to increase the relationship by 50 for Bob and Eliza Pancakes you would have a cheat that looks like this:
- ModifyRelationship Bob Pancakes Eliza Pancakes 50 LTR_Romance_Main
You can also use this to decrease romance by whatever amount by changing the number to be a negative number instead.
How to Cheat Pet Relationships
You also have the option to use a friendship cheat with your pets if you have The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs to increase your relationship with them. This cheat is very similar to the cheat for humans with a small thing added. It looks like this:
- ModifyRelationship SimName PetName Amount LTR_SimtoPet_Friendship_Main
You want to fill the Sim name with the name of the sim you are currently controlling and the pet name is the name of your pet. Just like the sim to sim cheats the amount is how many points you wish to add to your relationship. Here’s an example of Bob Pancakes becoming friends with a dog that Eliza decided to adopt named Prissy.
- ModifyRelationship Bob Pancakes Prissy 100 LTR_SimtoPet_Friendship_Main
Just like with the sim cheats you are also able to use these to decrease relationships by changing the number to a negative number, so -100 or -50 instead.
Final Thoughts
Cheating relationships is seriously my favorite thing to do when creating a new family or working on a save file. EA really failed me in making people have friends in the game, like why do Bob and Eliza not have any friends when you load the game? Well, I like to meet people and then cheat it instead. For whatever reason when developing The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs, EA decided that they were not going to let players control their pets in this version of the game. As someone who has played previous sims games, this was a surprise and a serious disappointment to me.
As always with The Sims 4, modders went to work and discovered that there wascode allowing for playable pets, but it was disabled for the expansion pack. This meant that it was decently simple for a modder to create something allowing you to control your pets fully.
That’s where the playable pets mod comes in where you can control your cats and dogs and go ahead and tell them when to eat, poop, sleep, and more giving you total control over your animals and keeping your house cleaner for sure.
How Does The Playable Pets Mod Work?
This mod is actually pretty simple to use, it will allow your pets to become a controllable member of the household and you’ll be able to choose the things they are doing. You can get your pets to eat by clicking on the food bowl, click on the dog and get them to go poo wherever they are in that moment, or click on the floor and choose from lie down, sleep, or sit in that location.
How to Install The Playable Pets Mod
There are a few steps involved in installing the playable pets mod, first you want to go to this page to download the mod and click the download button at the bottom of the article. Once you click it will bring you to a different page to download the mod, and when complete it will show up in your downloads folder. It will start as a zip file, you want to open up this zip file and you’ll see two items that you then need to drag into your mods folder.
Since this is a mod and not custom content, you want to make sure that it isn’t deeper than one level into your mods folder. For example, you can create a folder in your mods folder called playable pets and put it there, but don’t create a folder within that folder and have it that deep because it won’t work properly.
Before the mods will work you need to make sure to enable mods in your game which can be found in your game options for The Sims 4. You’ll want to open up your game and click on the three dots on the home screen for the game go to other in the options menu.

You’ll see a part that says enable mods and custom content and you want to make sure that box is checked on, if you need to turn them on you’ll need to restart your game for the new settings to work properly.

This is honestly one of my favourite smaller mods that most players may not think they need. This mod allows you to totally control your pets and make them come alive in a way that was never available in The Sims 4 without this mod. You can make your pets actually eat and go to the bathroom instead of them just being annoying and having no idea what is wrong with them. Happy playing!
